How our second opinion process works
- After submitting our secure second opinion appointment request form, you should expect to hear from our Care Coordination Leader in the next two business days. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to call 704-831-4000.
- Next, our Care Coordination Leader will work with you to ensure that our spine specialists have everything they need to provide you with a trusted recommendation.
- If our spine specialists agree with the current recommendation on your surgical journey, you will receive that communication from our Care Coordination Leader. If our surgical team would like to discuss your treatment plan further, appointment options will be discussed with you directly.

If an appointment is recommended, one of our spine surgical specialists will meet with you to:
- Review your medical history information (medications, medical conditions, and previous surgeries)
- Discuss your current spine condition and the physical components of your condition including: movement, painful areas, muscle strength, and sensation
- Review your imaging findings with you
- Together, we will discuss the best option(s) for you and your spine care:
- Is surgery the best option?
- Are there additional non-surgical treatment options that should be attempted before proceeding with surgery?
- Are there additional tests or images that may be needed to give you the best recommendation?

The majority of appointments will take place at Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates' main office located at 225 Baldwin Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204, which is one of our SpineFirst clinics. However, depending on your needs, we may be able to offer a virtual appointment as well.
There are no costs associated with requesting a SpineFirst second opinion. Once our Care Coordination Leader collects and reviews your medical information, they will work with the surgical team to make a recommendation on next steps, whether that be an in-person consultation, additional necessary imaging, or a virtual appointment. Our Care Coordination Leader will discuss each step and any billable costs with you.
You can expect to hear from our Care Coordination Leader within two business days. During that first call, we will map out the next steps to get you the comprehensive evaluation you need. We anticipate this will all happen within one week of receiving your completed information. If there are any additional follow-ups needed, your spine specialist will discuss this with you directly.
